About the Fort Cavazos Area
Fort Cavazos, one of the largest military installations in the world, covers a total of 340 square miles and is located in Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove. It is approximately 60 miles north of Austin, the state capital.
The local economy for the Killeen-Temple-Fort Cavazos area is above average for the country as shown in the Milken Institute Best-Performing Cities Index of the 200 largest metros where it ranked #5 for 2011.
The climate in Central Texas is warm in the winter and hot in the summer making it a great place for outdoor activities. There are lakes nearby that offer year round outdoor recreation activities. The Bell County Expo center hosts several events year round including the Central State Fair, great music, championship rodeos, and exciting motocross action.
Copperas Cove
Copperas Cove, located in Coryell County, lies about 210 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico and 110 miles southwest of Dallas. The climate is temperate, with temperatures ranging from an average minimum of 33°F in January to an average maximum of 97° in July. The average annual rainfall is thirty-two inches. The population in 2010 was 32,032.
